Fly fishing last night out at Marabou in Steamboat

Last night out at Marabou in Steamboat, I went out fly-fishing with a few friends. Pat “on right” is a fly fishing master guide at Marabou Ranch is a long time Steamboat resident. He has a contagious enthusiasm for life, no surprise since gets to fish most days and when he isn’t fishing he skis nearly every day all winter since he manages Marabou’s on mountain ski base. He brings his passion of true wilderness adventure to Marabou and its residents all year and also runs the north park fishing club with access to over 50 miles of premium Trout water.

We had a great time on the river last night plying the waters for trout, catching a few, watching the hatches and the sun go down. Steamboat has wonderful fly-fishing where ever you go. Whether you are an experienced fisherman or beginner, going on a trip with one of Steamboat’s fly fishing guides is one of the best ways to learn the different rivers and lakes around town.

Marabou offers custom home sites, owner’s cabins along Elk River available to you four weeks out of the year for fly fishing excursions or entertaining, and access to the Outfitter’s Cabin with all the gear you could need, you have every opportunity to get out there and enjoy the Elk River in Steamboat Springs. You will also have access to Marabou’s Master Guides to assist you in all your adventures, including fly fishing for trout in Colorado.

For more information regarding your exciting fly-fishing experiences, check out Fly-Fishing in Steamboat to help you get started.
Yesterday Red passed away of old age. He had been acting strange the day before, pacing his kennel and flinching when I went to touch him, which is very unlike Red. Normally Red prefers to sleep most of the day away or to come out with a tail wag and a quick hello before going back to napping. I sat with him for a while and felt his head and petted him. He didn’t seem to have any physical pain anywhere, but he was clearly anxious about something. He didn’t eat his food, which his friend Jack next to him appreciated as Jack got to eat an extra breakfast. The next morning Red appeared to be fine and back to his old self. Sara gave him some lovin’ in the morning, but by the afternoon he had passed.

It’s so hard to lose a good friend, especially a dog like Red. Red was a tough old man, who loved to be on the trail and run, or would come up and snuggle us. I will always remember Red with lots of love. With a hundred dogs of all ages, it’s inevitable that a dog will pass away, just as our friends and family do, but it is never easy.

The Yampa River Botanic Park, located between downtown Steamboat and the mountain, is in the middle of the Music on the Green summer concert series. Every Thursday afternoon, from 12-1, the Botanic Park sponsors a group of musicians to come and play a set on the large lawn in the middle of the Park. This week Missed the Boat, a local bluegrass band, played an upbeat and fun set. The weather was beautiful this week and the park was packed with people. One of my favorite activities in town in the summer, if is definitely worth checking out if you are in Steamboat in the coming weeks. The Botanic Park is also a popular setting for weddings in Steamboat.

“A beautiful day horseback riding in Steamboat out at a few Ranch properties”

I woke up early morning on another beautiful day in Steamboat. In a few short hours I experienced and embraced Steamboat’s Western mystique while riding horseback. I sat back and took in all the majestic mountain beauty and held on as I looped through Steamboat’s pristine ranches out side of town. There are so many stunning ranches that allow you to take in the views, western values and have the daily opportunity to go horseback riding here in Steamboat – can’t forget the fresh mountain air! A beautiful summer day I will never forget, with the first-hand look at the local wildlife, wildflower-studded hillsides and vast pines overlooking the valley and mountain areas of Steamboat. No matter what time of day, trail riding allows you to experience a variety of majestic Rocky Mountain terrain. I saw many deer and elk along the way of the Colorado wilderness as well as open meadows and aspen covered hillsides – Absolutely Gorgeous! The ranches throughout Steamboat have so many quality values that go beyond. Can’t wait to get back out!

Write about your most frightening experience - something that haunts you or terrifies you, could be a memory from childhood, something that happened as a teenager. The moment could be one of embarrassment, shame or fear. Write for 10 or 15 minutes.

Now take that story and place it somewhere in nature - the mountains, the desert, a forest or field, or even the ocean. Turn the people into animals. Take out any speech and replace it with movements and actions. See what you end up with.
