Fall Coming
Posted on23. Aug, 2010 by DagnyMcKinley.
It’s in the air. The mornings are getting cooler and the excitement is building. Training is about to begin and the dogs are ready. They’ve had a pretty relaxing summer and they are ready to get into teams. Puppies will get paired up with more seasoned leaders and they’ll start to be organized into leaders, point dogs and wheel dogs. The older dogs will get out with their friends and maybe be paired up with a new teammate, but the tried and true teams will stay together for now.
They’ll start out slow on short loops pulling a four wheeler, then they’ll build up to the twelve mile loop. Mornings will be filled with wildlife and frosty air. You can already see your breath some mornings. While the days warm up quickly, those first few hours are ripe for a good run.

Writing Exercise II
Posted on23. Aug, 2010 by DagnyMcKinley.
Choose a place anywhere in the world you have always wanted to visit. Write about what you would do if you were there. Imagine what the people look like, what they wear, what it would be like if you could sit down and have dinner with them, or camp with them in their wilderness.
Now, do some research. Find out what people wear, what they do. Incorporate some reality with your fantasy of the place. Take yourself out of the story and write it about a person of the opposite sex and how they would see the world. How does your world change if you are a man instead of a woman or a woman instead of a man?

Hiking Rabbit Ears Pass

“Hiking Rabbit Ears Pass in Steamboat Springs, Colorado! Summer 2010″
Steamboat comes to life in the spring and summer seasons, with green trails promising invigorating hikes everywhere you look. Rabbit Ears Trail is one of my favorites here in Steamboat! The hike to Rabbit Ears Peak, named for its twin rock pillars visible from the highway, begins as a casual walk through a spectacular flower-land. For some hikers, the last .25 mile to the “ears” poses a challenge; to others, it’s a fun rock scramble. Either way, the views near the summit are spectacular.
Once you start climbing Rabbit Ears Pass, be looking on your right for the Muddy Creek and Buffalo Park turn-off signs. When you pass these signs, you’ll be almost there, within about 1 mile, so you need to watch carefully for Dumont Lake sign and proceed on National Forest Road 315. Follow this road for about 1.5 miles until you come to the old stone monument on your left. Turn left at the monument and into the small parking area. The trailhead for Rabbit Ears Peak is straight through the gate that you will see, and continue down the dirt road. In a few short minutes, you’ll see a small market on your right with the number 291. This is where you start your hike to Rabbit Ears Peak.
The photo above is at the Top of Rabbit Ears, the photo below is hiking through meadows of wildflowers.
Whatever the contours of your sense of adventure, Steamboat Springs is a place brimming with possibility, on that knows no lethargy.
