Posted on14. Jun, 2010 by Lizzie Larock.
Please ignore the fact that the top of this ad says these guys are starting at 10pm - they are starting EARLY EARLY EARLY at 8pm - I PROMISE! I screwed up our ad - not the first time and probably not the last. Kurt is ready to kill me, so here is a blog post to set the record straight. This is an EARLY show - we've got opening music at 7pm - and the show at 8pm. Heck - we even moved Prime Rib night to Wednesday to accommodate all the fans. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. This is going to be an amazing, fun, throw back to the good ole' days kind of night with several original band members. See you tomorrow night (Tuesday, June 15th) - come EARLY EARLY EARLY - SHOW STARTS AT 8pm!!!!!!

Old Town Pub Treats Moms to Royal Foot Massages!
Posted on25. May, 2010 by Lizzie Larock.
In honor of Mother's Day - Old Town Pub ran one of our favorite promotions - foot massages for the great moms of Steamboat! All a doting son/daughter or spouse had to do was come into the Old Town Pub and fill out one of our Mother's Day ballot forms - tell us why their mom was wonderful and she would be entered to win one of four complimentary foot massages from Royal Foot Massage in Central Park Plaza. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this place -- it's HEAVENLY!
We had adorable entries and these were the four winners. Thank you to all who participated and congratulations to:
Linda Lyons
Amber Garrity
Sharon Ward
Diana Dunn
My favorite entry of all was definitely Clay Garrity's - in honor of his mom he wrote, "My mom is wonderful because she is always ready to do anything. She's really polite and a good mother. I am so glad that m mom is my mom. She's always eccentric. Also she is a part of my life. Even if she is in a bad mood, she trys (sp) to get in a good mood just for me and my sister. She is also one thrilling Mother!"
Thank you, Clay, and the rest of the kids (and spouses) who entered their favorite mom into our contest. Ladies - enjoy the foot massages. Trust me - it's a treat your feet won't forget!
And someone, please tell my husband, Matt, that I'd like one too! --Lizzie Larock (owner of Old Town Pub, mother of twins, fully deserving person of a foot massage)

Avoid the Doghouse! Mom better not be cooking or doing dishes this weekend!
Posted on07. May, 2010 by Lizzie Larock.
Yes boys (and girls) - it's Mother's Day and I'm sure many of our blog subscribers are in a panic as it's Friday and probably no presents have been purchased, beautiful kids drawings made, photos framed and you're inching closer and closer to moving into the dog house with each passing hour. Have no fear, Old Town Pub is here to give you a few suggestions!
Handmade gifts are always the best (in my opinion), but because we moms work sooooooooooo hard with very little appreciation (no I'm not being a martyr, well maybe a little), I think it's nice to combine a homemade gift with a decadent one. So here's my thought that I am trying to telepathically transmit to Matt (my husband) and to Catherine & Jacey (my two children) and see if they oblige me in my wishes.
GIFT IDEA 1) Go to the store and buy some kind of lovely bubble bath (doesn't need to be expensive, they sell aveeno and other good products at citymarket & safeway), Have the kids use paint pens to decorate a small (empty) pellegrino bottle with glittler glue, paint pens, pom poms etc. They can get as creative as they want. Use a funnel and transfer bath soap into the bottle. Tie a ribbon around it with some handmade cards from the kids. Store bought - very funny and appreciative card from spouse should include ----------->this is really important<------------a gift certificate to one of our many local fabulous spas - facial, massage or whatever she chooses. Waterside Day Spa, Sol Day Spa, the Spa at the Steamboat Grand, Bella's Spa (not to be confused with the new Bella's Wine Bar).
Gift Idea 2) Speaking of Bella's Wine Bar -- you could also get her a gift certificate to the mom's night out capitol of Steamboat (Bella's Wine Bar), offer to babysit and let her take her overworked mom friends out for an evening of decadent wine & cheese (and chocolate). The handmade gift could be an actual bottle of wine - I recommend Fess Parker Chardonnay or David Bruce Pinot Noir from Central Park liquor with a bow tied around it - attached to a Bella's gift certificate. (trust me Bella's Wine Bar is adorable - all moms love it)
Gift Idea 3) If the favorite mom in your life (mother of your children, I'll assume here for this post), loves the 80's - then take her out to the Old Town Pub tonight for acoustic 80's with Ernie & Mike. Treat her to a delicious meal at Old Town Pub and grab a good seat as the music starts early -- 9pm -- so mom can get her beauty rest and the babysitter won't cost a fortune!
WHAT TO DO ON MOTHER'S DAY: And last but not least -- when you're in the Old Town Pub - tell us why your mom or the mother of your children is so wonderful and we'll enter her to win a gift certificate to Royal Foot Massage (in Central Park Plaza). This place is phenomenal (trust me, I've been several times as have MANY of my girlfriends). It's WAY more than a foot massage!!! We'll be awarding 3 lucky moms after we get all the entries. Drawing is on Tuesday, May 11, you don't have to be present to win. If you need to fill yours out ahead of time -- here it is, but you have to bring it by in person. I always suggest taking mom out for brunch/lunch on mother's day and then (most important thing in this whole blog post) then give her the rest of the DAY OFF - no kids - no chores - just MOM time (all by her sweet self).
We'll start spoiling Moms on Sunday at 11am with complimentary MOMosas for moms (yes this is a mimosa for a mom). We'll have delicious french toast, ham & cheese omelets, tomato & basil omelets & fluffy eggs with crab over toast +++++ our usual fantastic lunch menu. Then take the kids to a movie, the bowling alley, the library, the grocery store, paint your own pottery, whatever you can think of and give mom the rest of the day off -- father's day is just around the corner ....

Top 10 Reasons Beer is Good for your Health

Everyone is looking for a reason to drink beer. Right? It turns out that a lot of people are. So here are 10 great reasons to drink more beer. Not only that, but they're all true. Beer really is good for your health, so drink up!
1. Beer Reduces Stress
Alcohol in general has been shown to reduce stress. This one is obvious, and may be the best reason beer is good for your health.
2. Beer is Good for the Heart
A study was conducted from 1982 - 1996 on the elderly. It was found that those who drank at least 1.5 per day had a 20-50 percent less chance of having heart failure.
3. Beer Improves Blood Circulation
Beer increases your "good" cholesterol, or HDL (high-density lipoprotein) cholesterol. Its basically a kind of blood fat, so it reduces blood's tendency to clot.
4. Beer is Chock Full o' Fiber
The fiber comes from the cell walls of the malted barley. A liter of beer can have as much as 60% of your daily recommended fiber. The extra fiber will keep you regular and can also lower the risk of heart disease.
5. Beer as a Multi-vitamin
Beer is a significant source of magnesium, selenium, potassium, phosphorus, biotin, folate, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12
6. Beer can Prevent Strokes
A study published in Stroke magazine in 2001 showed that alcohol drinkers have fewer strokes. Because it thins the blood, it increases the circulation in the brain, thereby protecting from silent strokes which are cause by tiny blood clots.
7. Beer keeps your Brain Young
A large study, published in the December 2001 issue of Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research, was conducted on elderly italian men and women. It showed that moderate drinkers had a 40% lower risk of mental impairment.
8. Beer is Good for your Liver
Alcohol expands the small blood vessels in the liver. This speeds up metabolism so it can help clean all the toxins out of the liver. This is from Beer Net Publication, April 2001 Biological Institute.
9. Beer Cures Insomnia
Lactoflavin and nicotinic acid, both present in beer, can promote sleep. Also hops are a natural sedative.
10. Beer Fends off Gallstones
According to Professor Oliver James at the University of Newcastle, beer protects against gallstones and kidney stones.

Old Town Pub Helps Support Steamboat’s Ride 4 Yellow!
Posted on13. Apr, 2010 by Lizzie Larock.
Old Town Pub is thrilled to announce a fantastic new Steamboat summer event that not only is for a wonderful national cause for fighting cancer, but also helps our local community with cancer related services. Here at the Old Town Pub, we're always looking for ways to give back to the community that loves and supports us and the Steamboat Ride 4 Yellow is a natural fit for our philanthropic goals. So we're joining the Steamboat Ride 4 Yellow cause as a sponsor - and if we can get in shape - maybe as a rider too :0
We sincerely thank the Steamboat locals and visitors for supporting us for over 25 years so that we can continue to give back to our community in positive ways. We'll be partnering up with other Steamboat charities in the coming months. We welcome your suggestions, feedback & charitable ideas! Bring in your paid Steamboat Ride 4 Yellow entry form, donation form or sponsorship form during April 2010 for a free pint of Fat Tire from Old Town Pub!
